Trip to Washington D.C.

"Bad judgement!" That was my boss reply, when I told him that we are planning road trip to DC and back - all in one weekend! We left Friday evening, drove for 11 hours and got back Monday morning, ready to work that day. But I had a good time! Check out the pics!

Here is our crew (two vans)

WHY IS the WHITE house WHITE?

It has nothing to do with the burning of the house by the British in 1814, although every schoolchild is likely to have heard the story that way. The building was first made white with lime-based whitewash in 1798, when its walls were finished, simply as a means of protecting the porous stone from freezing. Why the house was subsequently painted is not known. Perhaps presidents objected to the dirty look as the whitewash wore away. The house acquired its nickname early on. Congressman Abijah Bigelow wrote to a colleague on March 18, 1812 (three months before the United States entered war with England): "There is much trouble at the White House, as we call it, I mean the President's" (quoted in W. B. Bryan, "The Name White House," Records of the Columbia Historical Society 34-35 [1932]: 308). The name, though in common use, remained a nickname until September 1901, when Theodore Roosevelt made it official.

NBA: Bulls vs Magic

Oh, what a terrible loss. Bulls had 3 quarters easily in their hands, but they suck in the last and most important one. At least I saw good performance of Argentinian player Nacioni with career's high 26 points, Bulls guard Heinrich really have to practice free throws.

Reporter: "Going into 4th quarter, the Magic had a different look... The Magic looked like a team that believed they could win a game. Any game. And tonight, it was on the expenses of Chicago Bulls. " And I agree. Final score 93 -97.

Looking forward to my next game against Pacers.

Practice, practice, practice!

Final seconds...

VSE Students

Too bad I did not take many pictures from my trip to Prague and London, but for some reason I found this funny one. These students just have too much fun under Johnny's supervision. Evicka and Miska are at least pretending their interest... Good luck with your exam !

Lunch in Chinatown

Different world and different culture, smaller people and funny language... Where am I?

Chinese immigrants did not start arriving in Chicago until the 1870s, after the completion of the transcontinental railroad. By 1970, Chicago had the fourth-largest Chinese population in America.

Even though Chicago's Chinatown is a small enclave (consisting of eight blocks only), it's a very popular place for Chicagoans, just like me:-)

Hello everyone and welcome to my new blog!

From time to time I will post few articles and pictures from my trips or other events. I'll keep it very international, and so don't blame me if you don't understand other language :-)

You know what? ...let start right away - switch!

"Hura, tak nachvilu pekne po slovensky. Vitajte na tejto jednuchej stranke, ktorej ciel je jediny. Vypisat sa. Nie vyrozpravat, ale vypisat. Clovek ma obcas chut podelit sa o skusenosti ci zazitky bez toho, aby musel prehovorit. Tak to skusam tiez. No co mam robit, vy za oceanom - chybate mi!"

Greetings to all of you from Chicago!

Always yours,
